Inch Size Silicon Carbide Bearings

Silicon carbide ball bearings are used less frequently than other ceramic materials. Due to its raw material cost and processing difficulty. Silicon carbide has the best heat and corrosion resistance of all ceramic materials. Silicon carbide ball bearings are best suited for low loads, low to medium speeds and highly corrosive environments. Silicon carbide (SiC) is a lightweight ceramic material with high strength properties comparable to diamond. It has excellent thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and is resistant to acid corrosion. Silicon carbide is an excellent ceramic material for applications requiring good erosion and wear resistance. AUB can supply rings and bearing products made of SiC as well as other SiC parts. Bearings made of other ceramic materials such as ZrO2 and Si3N4 are also available.

The ceramic material silicon carbide has multifaceted properties and can be tailored to specific requirements. Its extreme hardness combined with low weight, temperature stability and corrosion resistance make this material ideal for plain bearings in chemical and process engineering plants where aggressive media are often used.

Ceramic Bearing Cage

The cages of all-ceramic bearings are usually made of high-performance plastics, such as PEEK or PTFE. AUB's ceramic bearing cages are made of polyether ether ketone (PEEK), a thermoplastic used in various semiconductor applications . PEEK is lightweight, has very good mechanical properties, high operating temperature and good resistance to media. For extreme temperatures (to -253°C), polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) is used instead of PEEK, which also provides better media resistance. When the temperature exceeds 250°C, heat-resistant steel is used as the cage material.

Internal Clearance

The standard radial clearance of AUB's ceramic ball bearings complies with class C0. Like traditional steel ball bearings, ceramic ball bearings can also achieve C3 class radial clearance. Whether your application requires C3 or C5 radial clearance, please contact us for more details.
